A New Challenge at WRICH!

whrich rowerConcept2 is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the 2023 World Rowing Indoor Championships (WRICH), staged this year as a hybrid event, February 25-26, 2023 in Mississauga, Toronto, Canada. Competitors will join the action both in person, and virtually in real time from around the world, using the same timing and results system. In addition to individual races at the 2000m and 500m distances, team 2000m relays and para races, this year’s championship will feature the Versa Challenge, a brand new competition made up of five different surprise events taking place over the two days in Toronto. Rowing World Champion Oliver Zeidler Sets His Sights on WRICH

German rower Oliver Zeidler originally came to prominence in indoor rowing when he won the World Games in Wroclaw in 2017 with a time of 5:42.0 in his first ever indoor race. His rowing career has gone from strength to strength since that first indoor race. On the water, he competed in the Tokyo Olympics, and is the current reigning World Champion in the Men’s Single Sculls. The 2023 World Indoor Rowing Championships in Mississauga, Toronto, February 25–26, sees him return to the world indoor stage for the first time since 2017, so we took the opportunity to sit down with him for a quick chat. This year’s World Rowing Indoor Championships was definitely one for the books. As with so much in the past year, the Coronavirus pandemic meant a sudden change of plans and a lot of extra creativity, all of which resulted in the first ever virtual World Rowing Indoor Championships taking place February 23-27, 2021.
 
World Rowing and their partners put on a truly impressive event, incorporating a live race tracker, live video from many of the athletes plus commentators from the UK, Australia and the US, all of which helped to create a live event feel. In total, 763 athletes from 63 different countries raced over three days, all online from the comfort of their own home or gym (if racing 2000 metres can ever be described as comfortable!). Second World Rowing Indoor Championships Heads to California

The event will be staged in Long Beach, California, USA on February 24 2019. It will combine with the Long Beach Sprints and will also serve as the inaugural USRowing Indoor National Championships.
