- Our Olympic Challenge – St Albans & Harpenden SSP
The 17th September marked the historical moment when the Mayor of Beijing handed the Paralympic flag over to the Mayor of London and London became the official host city for the 2012 Paralympic Games. To mark this historical occasion the St Albans & Harpenden School Sports Partnership in conjunction with Oakland’s College hosted a series of events for local pupils. - Competition Managers Indoor Rowing Programme

School Competition makes TV news. Ex- pupil of Burgoyne School, Simon Prior, who is planning to row across the Indian Ocean for charity, returns to inspire pupils to take up indoor rowing. - Yet another use for Indoor Rowing – Study support
The Pilgrim Centre’s aim is to use sport to motivate pupils aged 9 – 14 who are struggling with their study or who have become disillusioned by traditional learning styles. The centre has developed a healthy living session which incorporates physical exercise linked with ICT applications. We identified Concept2 rowing machines and RowPro software as meeting these needs and delivering a wow factor. “I’d never been on a rowing machine before and it was excellent.” .“The rowing made the exercise fun but tiring.” - Heart of Birmingham – Indoor Rowing in Primary and Secondary Schools
The Teaching Primary Care Trust in the Heart of Birmingham area put machines into primary and secondary schools in the Birmingham area with the aim of raising awareness of fitness and tackling obesity with pupils from a young age. Redwood school competed against many other schools at this years English Indoor Rowing Championship in Manchester. “This culminated in us receiving a special award at the closing presentation in recognition of our pupils outstanding effort and performance. We were presented our medal by no less than Anna Bailey - world champion in the events such as 1000k !” - Newcastle Schools Sport Partnership
Newcastle Schools Sport Partnership (NSSP*) is supplying students in Newcastle city schools with rowing machines to improve their competitive edge, fitness and interest in the sport. “Students get fit and by competing against each other in their teams, gain respect for the abilities of others and raise their own sporting standards.” - Sutherland Primary School
The club offers children, aged 9-11, a structured indoor rowing experience and ‘healthy lifestyle’ coaching. We have had fantastic success with some of our targeted pupils, in particular those pupils identified as ‘over weight’. By introducing them to indoor rowing as part of a balanced programme of ‘healthy living’, we have successfully and significantly improved their ‘wellbeing’. - Lordswood School
The Lordswood School in Birmingham have been using their rowing machines to make Maths and ICT lessons more enjoyable and practical for pupils. Maths teachers and PE staff combined parts of their curriculum by using PE time to do fitness testing, which in turn were used in Maths and ICT lessons to understand the Speed, Distance and Time relationship. - Al-Hijrah Secondary School
Pupils in the Al-Hijrah Secondary School in Birmingham used the Concept2 rowing machines to do a virtual Hajj row. The lesson resources and online guide gives pupils the opportunity to understand the Hajj, mirror the events of the Hajj and row for equivalent distances. The Hajj is a yearly event and will take place at the start December this year. - Frankley Community High School
Frankley Community High School situated on the outskirts of Birmingham is a relatively small school with just under 500 pupils on register ranging from years 7-11. Since the introduction of the Concept2 indoor rowing machines in Nov 2006 the PE DEPT has seen a noticeable positive effect in PE lesson/KS4 girls PE lessons and extra curricular participation levels. - Effects of a classroom-based program on physical activity and on-task behaviour
There is little evidence on the positive benefits physical activity can have on improving children's concentration, mental cognition and academic performance. The aim of this study therefore was to examine the effects of a classroom based physical activity program on young children's activity levels and on-task behaviour during academic instruction time. - Kingston Sports Partnership and St Philip's School
Wednesday 29th November 2006 saw the running of a new event to the Kingston Sports Partnership and St Philip's School. Using the brand new Concept2 model D's the students were given the opportunity to try out these amazing machines. - London Youth Rowing Community Projects
London Youth Rowing is a major sports initiative which brings together the resources of the Federation of London Youth Clubs and the Royal Albert Dock Trust to launch a community based rowing programme, the first such activity with plans to operate across the whole of Greater London. - Nottingham City Schools IRC
On Tuesday 23rd January the Nottingham School Sport Partnership held its first City Indoor Rowing Championships for primary school children. The year 6 competition was a huge success and combined tuition on rowing technique and how to use the indoor rower safely with fun games, pairs and team relay races - Pupils Stick Their Oars In
They maybe high and dry but a group of Bexley Primary School children have take to rowing in a big way. - Highfield High School
Highfield have had two rowers for just a few months and the whole thing has really taken off. There is a group of 20 pupils coming in as early as 7.30am in the morning to row these are pupils that do not take part in clubs or teams. - Biddenham Upper School
"We have an ergo room converted from an existing store room. The Indoor Rowers formed the culmination of a Year 9 unit of work about Health Related Fitness (HRF) in which pupils looked at fitness components then linked exercise with diet. Pupils were sorted into teams then as a team they had to select a food type, apples, bananas, chocolate and crisps. - SRT Birmingham School - Hodge Hill School

London Youth Rowing (LYR) showed their ambitions when 800 young people took part in the inaugural National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships, (NJIRC) this week at the Assembly Hall of Hammersmith Town Hall. The event was the brainchild of LYR Programme Director Matt Rostron, who then put together an unbeatable team that saw The Boat Race, and Concept 2 add their support to stage this exciting and well-attended event. - Steve Redgrave Trust Chooses Cardiff Schools
