Welcome To British University Rowing

British Universities Rowing was established by a group of volunteers in 2000 to help support and oversee rowing activity for British Universities Sports Association members, promoting and helping organised rowing activity in around 150 universities in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. BUR activities range from selecting and managing the British Universities GB rowing team, organising or assisting major International, Domestic and inter-varsity events, and helping provide and fund instructional courses for student trainee Umpires, Coaches and Club officials.

Newcastle University, EUSA Mens 4x Champions, 3rd EUSA Rowing Regatta Brive, September 2006

Our activities are supported by long-term partners Concept2 and Oarsport, well known names in the rowing world, by Godfrey Sports who are one of the longest established rowing-kit suppliers & Rock-The-Boat who provide world re-known event shirts and leisure wear. All have been with BUR since our early days and their support has helped develop the leading university rowing group in Europe.

The annual BUSA Indoor event has been a key part of the Concept2 National Indoor Championships since 1993, with a BUSA entry regularly including lead international rowers and the Oxbridge Blue Boat squads. The wet Regatta grew out of an original UAU two-hour slot at Nottingham City Regatta, since 2002 consistently being the largest regatta in the UK. Sprints were added in 2003 and in 2007 the Regatta broke the 1,000-entries mark, nearly 4,500 entrants in three full days of racing. The BUR BUSA Head started in 2004, the rapid growth of this event ensuring that the Small Boats were granted their own event in 2006.

Internationally BUR managed the GB FISU Team in 2000 in Poznan and then ran the Festival of Rowing in Nottingham in 2002, featuring the FISU World University Rowing Championships and Commonwealth Regatta. In 2005 BUR founded and ran the first European Universities (EUSA) Regatta in Cardiff Bay with the excellent support of WARA and Concept2. BUR has been actively involved in GB FISU rowing team since 2000, and financially supports the BUR GB Rowing Team they select for the annual EUSA regatta.

Details of all BUR activities can be found on the relevant pages on this site with other information also on www.busa.org.uk, please get in touch if you need more information. The BUR Team are also keen to attract new volunteers to help with any aspect of our operations, so please don't be shy.GET INVOLVED
