Congrats go out to Olympic Rowers

Aug 18, 2016

Concept2 oars and sculls helped 32 crews step up on the podium at this year’s Rio Olympics! That’s 76% of all medal-winning crews at the Olympic Regatta. Nine crews won gold medals with Concept2 oars and sculls, each custom-built here in our Morrisville, Vermont, factory.

The US medaled in two events, the women’s single sculls (Genevra Stone) and the women’s eight. It was an exciting week full of hard conditions, hard racing, and strong results by all crews. All of these athletes have trained on the Concept2 Indoor Rower to build their fitness to Olympic caliber. Full coverage of the event, including some close photo finishes, can be found at row2k.com.

In Rio, our on-site Oar Technician Bob Beeman was presented with a thank you medal and certificate from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Concept2’s support of the athletes and their equipment. It’s an honor to work with these athletes, and inspiring to see what they’re capable of—both on the water and training with the indoor rower.

We continue our yearlong celebration of 40 years of Concept2, and haven’t lost sight that it’s also the 40th anniversary of women’s rowing in the Olympics.

Congratulations to all the athletes, and a special thanks to the female athletes who helped make it possible for the next generation to reach the podium.
